Art Therapy Sessions
Individual Art Therapy Sessions are a great alternative to more common 'talk therapies', where you may find it hard to open up to someone about yourself and your problems, or it can feel like you are being re-traumatised by having to retell the events numerous times.
Art Therapy allows the focus to be on the creative process and invites the client to express themselves in ways that don't necessarily require words. Often the psyche can process and shift through creativity, without the need to go into details or relive traumatic memories.
"Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time."
- Thomas Merton
In a typical session
We will go through and expand on information provided in the Intake Form and have a discussion about expectations and goals.
I usually like to use some form of guided visualization / meditation to help the client get into a relaxed state of consciousness that will allow the creativity to flow. This is usually tailored to the client and the focus for the session.
Following this, you will be invited to engage in an art process with a selection of materials to work with.
When you feel the art is complete, we explore the art with curiosity, delving the depths, to see what insights may be gained...sometimes the only goal is to enjoy being creative and this is enough.
What to expect
When you book an individual session:
An Intake Form will be emailed to you, to complete and return prior to the appointment. Information on the Intake Form will assist in understanding a little bit about you (or your child) and what your goals are for the session, so that I can create a plan.
On-line sessions: will receive an email with payment details and a list of art materials that may be useful to have on hand.
Face-to-face sessions: all art materials are provided and an invoice is provided following the session, payable to the Centre for Healthy Living.
